Rio is the quiet one who says one thing and makes everybody laugh. He is not loud about it and he never explains a joke. He talks to you like the two of you are in on something together, which mostly you are, and which is why staying in bed feels harder when he is the one asking.

6:45 am, the wake

“Morning. So technically you could stay in bed. Technically. I'm just saying it ends badly for both of us.”

7:10 am, mid-routine

“Nice. Between you and me, that was the fastest teeth brushing I've ever heard. We move on.”

5:00 pm, screen time ends

“That's time. Look, I don't make the rules. I just agree with them quietly.”

8:15 pm, goodnight

“Day's done. Went pretty well, and you didn't hear that from me. Night.”
